Boston to Ponta Delgada has the most December dates on its board, 16 of them. Every one from 1 to 17 December sits between €326 and €333. Then it climbs: €414 on the 18th, €419 on the 19th, €663 on the 20th and €479 on the 22nd. After Christmas it is €463 on the 26th and €659 on the 27th.

Toronto to Ponta Delgada has 10 December dates. The 1st, 4th and 13th are €309 to €310. From 17 to 22 December the fares run from €446 to €641. One date breaks the pattern: 23 December at €310. That fare was last confirmed on 15 September, 19 days before this post, so check it on the airline's page before you plan around it.

New York to Ponta Delgada has five December dates: €333 on the 12th, €338 on the 16th, €379 on the 19th, €523 on the 23rd and €333 again on the 26th.

Montreal to Ponta Delgada has one December one-way date, 19 December at €489. Round trips are priced on seven December dates, in the next table.

Boston to Terceira is priced on Mondays only, because that is the one day a week the nonstop flies (the week of 21 September report explains how a reader found this). On 7, 14 and 21 December it is €333, and on 28 December €328. On this route the Monday before Christmas costs the same as the rest of the month.

Toronto to Terceira has no December fare on its board. The board holds two one-way dates and one round trip, all in October. We cannot tell you what December costs on this route, and we will not guess.

What does a December round trip cost?

The cheapest December departure on each board, and the departures closest to Christmas. The return date is part of the fare: the same outbound day with a different return is a different price.

Three things stand out.

  1. A month at home can cost less than a week at Christmas. Montreal out on 12 December and back on 11 January is €464. Montreal out on 19 December and back on 26 December is €721.
  2. Two days can be worth €158. Montreal 19 to 26 December is €721; 21 to 28 December is €563. If your dates can move by a couple of days, look at the days either side on the round trip board.
  3. New York's cheapest round trip of any month is in December. Out on 2 December and back on 9 December, €557, which is the airline's $632, confirmed 1 October.

Will December fares drop if I wait?

For the cheap days in early December, waiting has not paid so far. For the days just before Christmas, we do not know yet, and here is why.

The cheap December days already sit at each route's floor. The lowest one way on each board, for any month, is barely below its cheapest December day:

RouteLowest one way, any monthDepartsConfirmedCheapest in Dec
Toronto to Ponta Delgada€308 ($350)12 Nov1 Oct€309
Boston to Ponta Delgada€320 ($361)30 Oct2 Oct€326
Boston to Terceira€325 ($375)26 Oct17 Sep€328
New York to Ponta Delgada€332 ($381)18 Oct18 Sep€333

A fare a few euros above the lowest fare on the whole board has little room left to fall.

That floor has not moved in weeks. In the week of 21 September, the cheapest one way was €309 ($354) on Toronto to Ponta Delgada, a 0% change on the week before; €309 ($354) on Montreal to Ponta Delgada, 0%; €309 ($353) on Toronto to Terceira, 0%; and €331 ($380) on New York to Ponta Delgada, up 1%. The first weekly report, for 7 to 13 September, also had Toronto to Ponta Delgada at €309.

The days before Christmas are not at the floor. Boston to Ponta Delgada on 20 December is €663, more than twice its €320 low. That fare can fall or rise between now and December. Our records start in September 2026 and have never covered a Christmas, so we have no record to say which. If your dates are fixed, watch the date itself rather than the month.

Why does the weekly report show Boston at under €100?

Because those fares were sold from the islands, not to them. The cheapest Boston to Ponta Delgada one way in the week of 21 September was €93 ($106), but it was Ponta Delgada to Boston, departing 27 September. The Boston to Terceira low that week, €98 ($112), was Terceira to Boston, departing 27 October. Neither helps you fly home from Boston. The tables above are all in the Boston to the islands direction.

The September monthly report carries two December round trips sold from Boston: €632 ($737) to Ponta Delgada, leaving 16 December, and €631 ($735) to Terceira, leaving 21 December. Those were recorded in September, and the boards above are the current figures.

How to read these figures

The airline sells the North America routes in US dollars, and its total is the one you pay. We record that dollar fare and convert it to euros once, when we record it, at the European Central Bank rate published the day before. On the boards used for this post, the rates named run from 1.1298 to 1.1537 dollars to the euro.

The boards show each December date in euros. They name the dollar figure for the board's lowest fare only, which is why the date-by-date figures above have no dollar beside them. Choose a date on the board and it opens that date on the airline's own site, where the dollar total is.

These are published fares, not live inventory, and a fare can be gone by the time you look. An empty day on a board means we hold no nonstop fare for it. The methodology covers the rest, and Introducing Azores Flights explains what we watch and why.
